Item | # 0001883691 | Family | Pectinidae | Name | Chlamys australis - ULTRA-BIG; ORANGE , Sowerby, 1844 |
Size | 111.3 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | Around three decades ago, Chlamys australis was fished commercially off the Western Australian coast. Large quantities of specimens were obtained, which demonstrated that this particular orange colour form was one of the least encountered amongst the many colours possible in this species. As this commercial trawling has been discontinued, specimens are now obtainable only from old collections. The current specimen is of very large size, and is of excellent overall quality, exhibiting only minor typical trawl fraying and erosion. Size: 111.3 m (longest dimension). Grading: F++. Data: Off Carnarvon, Western Australia, Australia; upon mud/sand substrate; 100-200 m; trawled; 1984. |
