Note | Chicoreus (Triplex) maurus (Broderip, 1833), New Caledonia, Tadine, Mare, with original operculum on, ex live taken specimen shell. by diver at 18-20m depth.
Impressive secimen of almost square size, in fact the relation between length and girth is almost unbelievable, and it is preserved in natural and flawless quality. A treasure from New Caledonia and out of reach due to stringent protection of the famous local marine fauna, this is a stunning sight and a shell of exceptional importance, dived in late 1980's and obtained from a Florida supplier of world class seashells and probably unique due to its exuberant pink fronds which measure over the shoulder an astonishing 70mm. A specimen of outstanding beauty, most dealers I guess would not hesitate to grade this as gem, and of course the piece is 100% genuine and all natural condition, most carefully cleaned by hand, no chemicals were applied. A rare specimen of intriguing beauty, formerly in the Pierson collection. |
