Size | 178 mm, w/o |
Locality | Kalbarri, Western Australia |
Note | Altivasum flindersii (Verco, 1914), Kalbarri, Western Australia, offshore traps set at 120m depth. with operculum!!!!
Porcellain white nacre to the aperture with full live taken gloss, intense golden color to the body and densely set with elongated tube like spines, this is a connoisseur specimen of highest grading. A famous and classic rarity among seashells, this is the elongated high spire form from deeper water which never was easy to find even in the best of times, and only the less desirable rather massive and near spineless form from reefs in less than 40m depth was in reach for divers to be collected alive; and now with the restrictions on deep water nets even in Australia they are running out of stock without new specimens even for the home market. So this lovely shell from old collection should prove an interesting appearance on the shell market. Very large size and super attractive golden yellow color, the aperture with full natural gloss and very lovely condition with a strong apex, this beauty was collected in late 60's |
