Item | # 0001929196 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Cribrarula cibraria gravida - SUPERB ! |
Size | 26.9 mm |
Locality | South West Rocks NSW |
Note | This is a superb quality, fat, mature gravida from the type locality. Definitely one of the best 10 collected to date, in fact probably one of the best 5, I'm only aware of 3 or 4 better ones. Shell has an octopus drill on the posterior lateral base (this is standard, taking of live shells from the type locality is discouraged), but is otherwise in excellent condition. A microscope, or high quality photo, is necessary to see any miniscule scratches or imperfections, the shell looks gem to the naked eye (and I'm short-sighted) other than the drill. Some extremely minor roughness can be felt on the columella margin if you get picky. Very glossy, very solid teeth, heavy margins and regular net pattern. Moderate size. This is the best shell found at this locality in the last 2 years, not many other good ones have been turning up. Better than in my own collection. By SCUBA diver, 12 m deep, 2017. |
