Size | 245 mm, w/o |
Locality | Gulf of Panama |
Note | Pleuroploca princeps (Sowerby, 1825), from De Las Perlas Island, Gulf of Panama, dived at 8m depth, with operculum and with full and fresh periostracum, live taken specimen shell. This is the large and majestic Pacific coast cousin of the Pleuroploca gigas which is much beloved by collectors for its glossy orange aperture which in mature specimen shows dark golden brown radial ribs which make a beautiful contrast. An outstanding and mature specimen which has all the margin and siphonal area preserved in very good quality which alone would make it a most desirable specimen. In addition, it comes with large size, full periostracum and all cleaned by hand. I think there is not much more to say except that the operculum is absolutely genuine and the lip is magnificent for being mature and absolutely undamaged, the mouth is gorgeous smoked salmon color and the surface. A specimen shell of great beauty and superb color. Always a fascinating species and very difficult to obtain in any condition, this here is an absolute beauty from my personal collection. |
