Note | A truly outstanding specimen of this cold-water, Northern hemisphere, extreme deep-water species. Exceptional quality for this usually very rough, trawled species, with retention of the delicate early whorls, lost upon the majority of specimens. Perfect siphonal canal. Natural outer apertural lip in superb condition, without any smoothing. Expertly cleaned, revealing the full beauty of the shell. (It is extremely difficult and time-consuming to clean a grammatus to this level.) Size: 106 mm (length). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Sea of Okhotsk, off Monbetsu, Hokkaido, Japan; upon mud/sand/rubble substrate; 200-200 m; trawled; 1997. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
