| Note | The bakeri subspecies represents the deep-water form of this endemic South-Eastern Australian species, exhibiting a paler palette and more graceful shape than its intertidal counterpart. Specimens were relatively available during past decades, but now tend to come only from old collections. This example from the ?old days? of collecting is ultra-clean and in excellent overall condition, with none of the typical erosion or encrustation. Typical light growth disruptions, always present in this species, and minor trawl fraying to outer apertural lip. Mammillate protoconch intact. Size: 104.1 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Port Phillip Bay, off Williamstown, Victoria, Australia; upon sand substrate substrate; 60-80 m; trawled; 1970. |
