Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila raywalkeri , Lorenz 2011 |
Size | 48.2 mm |
Locality | Augusta, WA |
Note | Live shell ROV collected from a sponge in 172 metres of water south west of Augusta. The shell exhibits the rounded margins that distinguish raywalkeri from rosselli. This particular shell has a flash of gold coloration in the aperture. At some stage the fish has been bitten by a fish and it has a nacre chip on the posterior dorsum and a chipped anterior siphon. These have been re-glazed by the animal and are therefore natural defects and not damage after collection. The few gem specimens we collect now sell for 1500 EUR plus and we rarely have a true gem shell available. |
