Item | # 0002036413 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila jeaniana - MOST SOUTHERLY FORM. , (Cate, 1968) |
Size | 74.8 mm |
Locality | Kalbarri, Central West Australia |
Note | This is a most interesting specimen due to its unique location. It appears as a jeaniana jeaniana, although slightly elongate and it has been taken off Kalbarri in 90M, the home of the friendii thalamega. The defining factor perhaps is the depth, being 90M off Kalbarri whilst the thalamega are collected at the depth of 25M to 45M off Kalbarri. As a jeaniana jeaniana it is the most Southern location that they have been found and possibly shows its association to friendii thalamega, as this location and depth have never been looked at until recently. Graded F++ with a number of nacre window scratches over the dorsum. ROV collected on geodia sponge in 90M, off Kalbarri, Central West Australia. |
