NoteEXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 2: Part two of my extra special sale comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. NOTOCHLAMYS BIFRONS: This is a rare hybrid between bifrons and another species, (probably hexactes, Péron in Lamarck, 1819, or fenestratum, Hedley, 1901). The precise identity of the hybrid species is difficult to determine, as the bifrons element predominates, presenting in the slightly smaller size of the interlocking obverse valve, and the exterior and interior colour, but elements of the morphology, and the external sculpture of pronounced radial striae are not of bifrons. One tiny predatory drill to reverse, (non-display), valve; obverse, (display), valve perfection. Apart from its scientific interest, it is a supremely beautiful shell. Definitely for the Pectinidae specialist, and undoubtedly lacking in even the most advanced Pectinidae collection. Size: 58.5 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F+++. Data: Backstairs Passage, off Kangaroo Island, between Fleurieu Peninsula and Dudley Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon coarse sand/gravel substrate, at night; 35 m; dived; 1994. Provenance: 1. Peter Clarkson collection; Port Lincoln, South Australia, Australia; 1998; 2. JES private collection; Melbourne/London.
