Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 2: Part two of my extra special sale comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. AMORIA DAMONI KEATSIANA / ‘GATLIFFI’: One of the BEST examples I have ever seen of the rare pattern form of damoni, variously termed keatsiana or ‘gatliffi’. A product of the legendary 1970s Taiwanese trawling operations undertaken off the Northern coast of Australia, and never available since, the majority of examples exhibit either a poorly formed pattern, and/or suffer from serious growth and trawl damage. The current specimen, although dead-collected as usual, has nothing but a few minor predatory marks to early whorls, and a smoothed outer apertural lip, as do all examples, as this was carried out at the source in the 1970s as a matter of course. Now extremely difficult to obtain, coming only from old collections. Size: 88.7 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Off Wadeye, (Port Keats), Northern Territory, Australia; upon sand/mud/rubble substrate; 200-300 m; trawled; 1970s. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
