Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 3: Part three of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. AMORIA UNDULATA SCLATERI: The ONLY live-collected sclateri I have ever seen. The sclateri form has no pattern, (as opposed to kingi, which exhibits nebulous, widely-spaced axial ribs), and occurs in an exceedingly small ratio in comparison with typical examples. Rich cream-ivory, with yellow-cream band at the sutures, and rich yellow-cream apertural interior. Typical sand abrasion to dorsum. Hypermature, with perfect, markedly thickened, ‘rolled’ and glossed outer apertural lip and siphonal canal. Full, live-collected gloss to apertural interior. An opportunity for the Volutidae specialist to acquire an extremely rare live-collected example of this very seldom offered endemic south-eastern Australian form. Size: 71 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Bass Strait, off Flinders Island, Tasmania, Australia; upon sand/gravel substrate; 120-180 m; trawled; 1981. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
