NoteEXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 3: Part three of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. ALTIVASUM FLINDERSI: The BEST specimen I have ever handled of the very rare, pure vivid orange South Australian form of this highly sought after endemic Australian species. The South Australian form always exhibits greatly reduced spines, and is much smaller upon maturity than examples from farther West. Pure white, porcellaneous apertural interior. Original operculum. Superb overall state of preservation. Exceptionally and painstakingly cleaned, with no coralline encrustation. The specimen was collected by the late Peter Clarkson, (author of ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’). No original Clarkson label accompanies the specimen, yet Clarkson provenance is automatically established, as he was the acknowledged single source for these rare, dived shells, and maintained secrecy with regards their locality. A very rare opportunity for a connoisseur collector to acquire a truly outstanding 'museum piece' of conchology. Size: 111.7 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Port Lincoln, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon sand/gravel substrate, amongst seaweeds and algae; 46 m; dived; 2000. Provenance: Peter Clarkson private collection, Port Lincoln; 2. JES private collection; Melbourne/London.
