| Note | BEST OF THE BEST......ULTRA-FLANGED.......Amongst the most sought after of ALL zoila, especially this size and quality. A stunning piece scarcely ever offered. The Abrolhos Islands are famous for yielding ultra-flanged specimens and this specimen could not exemplify the point any better. Ultra-mature. High dome. Ultra-heavy. Very black, like rare Venetian black glass. And, of course, those amazing flanges – 43mm wide!! A narrow bronze window with a wee patch of cream within the bronze (the desired kind). Top decks gem (micro under-gloss dot) and base a few puny nacre windows, perfectly smooth and not detracting from the allure, and quite normal for the vast majority of Abrolhos rosselli. Gem in essence as far as north-west rosselli go. Curated lovingly, and as if just taken from the water. The pick of the bunch for rosselli satiata I have included on auction and for that reason collectors will appreciate why I cannot start low, although, as those in the know will appreciate, I have set the start for this rarity at a sub market value. Grade: F++++/Gem. Provenance: from my own collection. Diver collected. Found 50- 55m amongst sponge. Feb 2016. Abrolhos Islands, Western Australia. |
