NameBernaya teulerei - BEST OF THE BEST !!!!!!! , Cazenavette, 1846
Size47.4 mm
LocalitySouth Oman
NoteBEST OF THE BEST......UNPRECEDENTED......The only truly hyper-mature specimen I believe so far from the newly discovered more petite population. And largest. In fact, I didn't realize just how mature until it was in the hand more recently. As a colleague articulated one time, take special notice of multitudinous marginal spots coinciding with the multitude of 'dimples' / depressions, as if hammered on by a highly skilled artisan. This is a feature unseen to this extent on ANY OTHER teulerei. The columellar margin is similarly pronounced, if not more spectacular, and has to be seen to be believed. But I'm limited with the number of photos and for this reason I strongly encourage those interested to ask for further images to see for themselves. This one is hyper-mature to a loftier degree, if one can put it that way, and showstopping compared to a normally very ordinary looking specie. The specimen has added nacre continuously, profiting from its long life, hence the truly spectacular margins. The dorsum has acquired a rich dark colour and a gloss of gleaming brilliance, the pattern boosted further with a symmetrically defined central motif and eye-catching tones of black, orange and cream. The overall effect is curiously middle-eastern and rather exotic. The base is suffused with a soft yellow. I cannot over-emphasize how more significantly this piece appeals in hand. Heavy like a stone. Curated lovingly. It's seldom I allude to monetary values but it's noteworthy that this specimen fetched one of the highest prices on auction. In this instance, though, set with rock bottom start to give all collectors a fair shake. As already stated, I encourage you to ask for more images. Do not miss out of the finest piece offered yet. Grade: Gem. Provenance: from my own collection. Taken in 2013 from the newly found and more petite population in South Oman.
