Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. VOLUTOCONUS BEDNALLI: Situated off the coast of the northern-most region of the Northern Territory, the waters off-shore from Melville Island are home to a population of bednalli exhibiting large, markedly broad, inflated, solid and heavy shells. Such specimens were collected in the 1970s, and have never been available since. The Melville Island form is virtually never offered upon the world market, with the majority of bednalli coming from farther afield, either off Darwin, or especially from Indonesian waters during the 1990s. The original 1970s label from an unidentified Australian collection accompanies the specimen, and verifies the locality of Melville Island. Definitely for the Volutidae specialist interested in locality varieties. Size: 101.1 mm (length). Grading: F++++.
