Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 5: Part five of my extra special sales comprised mainly of exceptional specimens from my private collection, (indicated with JES provenance in description). Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. PTERYNOTUS TRIFORMIS: A superb specimen of the solid, stout, somewhat heavy extreme southern form of this south-eastern endemic Australian species. As the species progresses westerwards, into South Australia, and eastwards, into New South South Wales, the shells become somewhat lighter, more delicate - but this extreme southern form, occurs in Victoria and Tasmania. Extremely clean, with only the most minimal encrustation, revealing the full natural colour and sculpture. Superbly balanced proportions. Definitely for the Muricidae specialist interested in locality varieties. Size: 60.1 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia; upon sand substrate; 40-50 m; dredged; 1986. |
