Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 5: Part five of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. RANELLA AUSTRALASIA: One of the BEST specimens I have ever handled of the rare and seldom offered pale, deep-water form of this southern Australian species. Often referred to as the 'white' form amongst Australian collectors, this deep-water form is little known outside of Australian collections. Very large size. Hypermature, with markedly thickened and flaring outer apertural lip. Delicate outer edge of flared outer apertural lip in an exceptional state of preservation for this trawled form. Exceptional overall quality, with no erosion. Ultra-clean, with no encrustation. An outstanding example for the Ranellidae specialist. Size: 113.8 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Eden, New South Wales, Australia; upon mud/sand substrate; 120-160 m; trawled; 1983. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
