Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. CYPRAEA REEVEI: The absolute BEST possible quality for a live-collected reevei. Unlike other Cypraea, this singular southern Australian endemic species has an extremely light-weight shell when completely mature, and, as a result, most specimens exhibit extensive growth damage and heavy irregularities. The current example, by contrast, is a rare example of a reevei as close to perfection as is possible. Resplendent live-collected gloss. Distinct spiral bands of hypermature malleation. The specimen was collected by the late Peter Clarkson, (author of ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’), and was retained within his private collection as one of the BEST live-collected reevei he ever found. The original hand-written Clarkson label accompanies the specimen. Definitely for the advanced Cypraeidae specialist who appreciates quality and provenance. Size: 39.1 mm (length). Grading: Gem.
