Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 6: Part six of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. AMORIA EXOPTANDA: Although standard specimens of this beautiful endemic southern Australian species are relatively available, most collectors do not realise how difficult it is to obtain a truly giant specimen of exceptional quality. Magnificent pattern of dense, reddish chestnut triangular markings, formed with utter perfection. Hypermature, with greatly thickened, 'rolled' outer apertural lip. No longer available like this, and obtainable only from old collections. Size: 113.4 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Thorny Passage, Port Lincoln, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon coarse sand/rubble substrate, at night; 20 m; dived; 1992. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
