Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 7: Part seven of my current extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. DOLICHOLATIRUS SMITHI: Extremely beautiful for a Latirus, This is the largest and BEST specimen I have ever seen of this dark Australian form. Previously known as Dolicholatirus angustus (Smith, E.A., 1884), the species was recently renamed by Snyder for reasons of taxonomic legality. Ultra-dark caramel and chocolate, with the appearance of turned mahogany. Ultra-clean, with no encrustation or erosion. Definitely for the Fasciolariidae specialist. Size: 50 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Cooktown, Queensland, Australia; upon sand/coral rubble/detritus substrate amongst reef; 2-4 m; dived; 1988. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
