Item | # 0002161333 | Family | Xenophoridae | Name | Onustus indicus - BIG NAT. QUEENSLAND FORM , Philippi, 1852 |
Size | 80.5 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A very large and superb specimen of the Queensland form, where it is uncommon, in comparison to its ready availability in the Philippines. The Queensland form exhibits beautiful pale colours, including delicate pink to early whorls, and a satin-like exterior, with microscopic sculpture. Invariably with fraying to ultra-fine periphery, left completely natural, and exhibiting exemplary balance to outline. (Philippine specimens are routinely smoothed all around the edge - particularly undesirable for the specimen shell collector.) For the Xenophoridae specialist. Size: 80.5 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F++. Data: Off Townsville, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 100-140 m; trawled; 1982. |
