Item | # 0002165159 | Family | Conidae | Name | Conus amadis arbornatalis - RARE QUALITY , Da Motta, 1978 |
Size | 73.4 mm |
Locality | Thailand |
Note | An exceptional specimen of rare quality, exhibiting well-curated, fresh, ultra-dark colour, and a magnificent, well-formed pattern. True arbornatalis in any condition are quite scarce, and many specimens offered as arbornatalis are, in fact, castaneofasciatus, lacking the ultra-high spire of this form. Fine spiral sculpture readily discernible. Pin-point protoconch intact, usually lost in the trawling process. For the Conidae connoisseur. Size: 73.4 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Andaman Sea, off Mergui Archipelago, Tanintharyi Region, Myanmar; upon sand/silt/rubble substrate, amongst sponges; 80-120 m; trawled; 2017. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
