Item | # 0002189089 |
Family | Volutidae |
Name | Amoria sp. - DEEPWATER AMORIA SPECIE. |
Size | 48.2 mm |
Locality | Ashmore Reef, N.W.Australia. |
Note | Normally I would not offer an unidentified species until I had it confirmed, but the owner is happy for me to do so. Its resemblance is to that of the dwarf form of Amoria grayi whitworthi, but its features are quite different. Firstly let me tell you that it has been taken in 167M of water, off Ashmore Reef in 2008. It is completely white in colour and extremely heavy for its size, unlike the whitworthi whitch are beige/ grey in colour and light in weight. It also does not have the gold bands running around the edge of each body swirl on the spire like all the other grayi forms. It has good lustre with just minor serrations on the lip. A great piece for the volutidae collectors that are looking for unique specimens. |
