Item | # 0002243109 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Umbilia armeniaca - TRULY AMAZING ATTACHMENT , CANAL REGROWTH. (Verco, 1912) |
Size | 110.0 mm |
Locality | Ceduna, South Australia. |
Note | On offer is a unique specimen of Umbilia armeniaca that will be noticed in any collection and be a talking point well before any other normal cypraea including rare specimens. The attachment on the columellar side of the posterior canal appears to be a considerable amount of mud/silt that the animal has nacred over, as it has a high gloss like the specimen itself. In addition the animal has commenced forming a new columellar side canal on top of the attachment. If you look at the close up image you can see the normal canal well underneath the attachment and the new white formed canal above. A true freak of nature on a lovely armeniaca specimen that exhibits a beautiful mantle line, is very mature and heavy and is 110mm including the attachment. Trawled in 120M, off Ceduna, South Australia. A lovely UNIQUE specimen and a real attraction for all collections. ALL REFECTIONS ARE FROM THE CAMERA LIGHTING. |
