Item | # 0002247558 | Family | Conidae | Name | Conus generalis krabiensis - SUPERB NEW W. AUST. FORM , (Da Motta, 1982) |
Size | 57.9 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | Recently discovered in the deeper waters off Exmouth, this appears to be a new population of ultra-large and spectacular krabiensis, far larger than typical examples from Thailand or the Indian Ocean. Incredibly rich and beautiful colour: vibrant deep orange-ochre, with characteristic deep purple-brown anterior extremity. Invariably with minor lines. The BEST specimen I have seen so far of this new form. Definitely for the Conidae specialist. Size: 57.9 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Exmouth, Western Australia, Australia; upon reef substrate, upon low profile limestone reef; 22 m; dived; 2013. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
