Note | A magnificent large specimen of the supremely beautiful Apollo Bay form, from the 'old days' of availability. The Apollo Bay form is characterised by a brilliant pale pinkish cream ground; ultra-clean shell, with no substrate discoloation; and dense patterns of highly angulate axial zigzags. Hypermature, with PERFECT thickened, recurved and glossed outer apertural lip and siphonal canal. Rare quality for this typically rough, deep-water species. Size: 155 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Henty Reef, Apollo Bay, Victoria, Australia; upon sand/rubble substrate; 20-30 m; craypot; 1982. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
