| Note | A superb large specimen of the beautiful Kangaroo Island form: white and tan; chestnut maculations; rich pink-peach early whorls; cinnamon accents to outer apertural lip. Exemplary quality for this rough habitat species. Originally described as a full species by Cotton, (who rightly recognised its difference to New South Wales specimens, exhibiting finer, broader shells), all Australian lampas are now classified as rubicunda, although, given a decided morphological difference between N.S.W. specimens and those occurring throughout the southern coast, I think it useful to retain the distinction of ‘powelli’ as a form or varietal name. Size: 160 mm (length). Grading: F++++; w/o. Data: Off Cape Borda, Kangaroo Island, South Australia, Australia; upon reef substrate, amongst sand/rubble; 40-50 m; craypot; 2004. |
