Note | A superb large specimen of this seldom offered, deep-water, endemic eastern Australian species. Typically very rough, with serious damage and erosion, the current specimen is of exemplary quality. When seen at this level of LIVE-COLLECTED quality, one may readily discern the beautiful nature of the colours, (three distinct registers per whorl, of reddish pink, ivory, and orange), along with the finely nodulose exterior surface. Collected via trawling operations during the 1970s and 1980s, fresh specimens have not been available for around three decades. Painstakingly cleaned, with no encrustation, nor erosion. Brilliant orange nacre to columella. Beautiful dusky pink operculum. Now obtainable only from old collections, and seldom at this size and quality. Size: 64.2 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Off Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; upon mud/sand/detritus substrate; 80-100 m; trawled; 1980s. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
