| Note | This incredible GIANT is only around a millimetre under the current official World Record Size of 121.61 mm. The specimen was collected over forty years ago from the rare locality of JAPAN. Exceptional quality for such enormous size, with nothing but the most minor typical fraying at the completely natural apertural lip. Extremely well-developed ‘tusks’. Decidedly prehistoric appearance. Definitely for the Argonautidae specialist, or dedicated collector of giant-sized shells. Data: Off Minabe, Hidaka district, Wakayama prefecture, Kansai region, Honshu, Japan; fishing nets; 1984. Size: 120.1 mm. Grading: Fine+++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
