| Item | # 0003916644 |
| Family | Muricidae |
| Name | Hexaplex radix - EXCEPTIONAL GIANT , (Gmelin, 1791) |
| Size | 123.4 mm |
| Locality | Mexico |
| Note | The LARGEST and FINEST specimen of the JES Collection, and one of the BEST specimens I have ever encountered, this magnificent GIANT is of rare quality for such enormous size. The Muricidae specialist will be aware of the difficulty in obtaining a monumental specimen of the Mexican form at this level of quality. Ultra-dark colour. Superb, inflated proportions. Perfect pinkish apex. Ultra-clean, with no encrustation, nor erosion. The specimen was formerly in the renowned Don Pisor collection of the US, and the original Pisor label accompanies the specimen. Definitely for the Muricidae specialist, or collector of outstanding giant-sized shells. Data: Off Puertocitos, Baja California Sur, Mexico; upon reef substrate, under ledge, at night; 16-20 m; dived; 1994. Size: 123.4 mm. Grading: Fine++++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
