Item | # 0002559660 | Family | Fissurellidae | Name | Fisurella pulchra - GIANT; SUPERB , Sowerby, 1834 |
Size | 73.6 mm |
Locality | Chile |
Note | A magnificent enormous specimen of this singular species, from the ‘old days’ of collecting. Now very difficult to obtain at this size. With original attachments left uncleaned, (preferred by some limpet specialists, although may be removed if desired). Note: There appears little distinction between F. pulchra and F. bridgesi (Reeve, 1849), both of which are endemic to the Peru/Chile region, and which are probably synonymous, giving Sowerby’s name priority. Size: 73.6 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Antofagasta, Chile; upon rock reef substrate at low tide; 1970. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
