| Note | Andreyi we find off Lancelin are remarkably consistent in size, shape and colour which to me suggests it is a population that has been stable for a long time. This is in contrast to shells found off the southwest corner of the state which show huge variation which I believe is due to mixing with the south coast population I refer to as "verawestralis".
Interestingly we saw no evidence of armeniaca on our recent collecting effort west south west of Dongara. This suggests that the Lancelin shells are close to the northern boundary of andreyi's distribution.
This specimen has a milky tan dorsum with a strong mantle line and a china white base. It is a crabbed shell with some dorsal nacre frosting. We have only collected five live specimens from this area north of the Perth Trench. |
