Family | CEPHALOPODA |
Name | Argonauta nouryi - Very Nice, Very Rare , Lorois, 1852 |
Size | 60 mm |
Locality | Ecuador |
Note | One very nice and very rare specimen of the rare argonautid Argonauta nouryi collected by fishermen at Ecuador. The species has a restricted distribution in the Eastern Pacific, reaching northern Chile. This shell is a paper-thin eggcase where the female Argonauta deposits its eggs; Argonauta nouryi has an elongated shell (in contrast to all other Argonauta), and this specimen is in very good condition for the species, with only a bit of damage to the border of the lip (see second image), but apart from that it is very nice. Size is about 60-62 mm in its longest dimensions. This is a very nice Natural History item, and will be shipped to the winner well packed inside a sturdy strong plastic container. |
