Item | # 0003060874 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila venusta episema - BEAUTIFULLY MARKED GEM , Iredale, 1939 |
Size | 68.25 mm |
Locality | Salmon Bay, Rottnest Island, WA |
Note | What a BEAUTIFUL specimen this is! A really classic looking shell from the Rottnest Island population with rich, dark BLACK SPOTS on top of a chestnut brown underlay. A BLUE HALO runs most of the way around the shell, separating the dorsum from the grey margins. A great heavy, mature shell that I would say is a GEM+ with no issues that i can see, is definitely one not to be missed! Taken by diver on a small dark green unidentified sponge from the underside of a massive limestone overhang at 24m. South of Salmon Bay, Rottnest Island, W.A. April 2023 *All white marks are from camera reflection and further images are available upon request* |
