| Note | From the splendid erect spines, enormous size to the classic form, a specimen of this quality and size belongs in the "top drawer." Not only a beauty in its own right, but a mere 2.5mm short of the registered WRS. The Chicoreus features a perfect apex, body whorl, spire and siphonal canal. Minor wear on a few erect structures (spines) becomes difficult to establish, even after scrutiny. A significant collectors' piece for murex specialists. Taken by tangle net at 100-120 meters in 9/2001 off Balicasag Island, Bohol, Philippines. Grade: GEM minus. |
