Note | Splendid California murex with excellent wide "foliate" varices and standout mellow brown pigmented body whorl that transitions into white and brown fringed wing terminals. Subtle shades of light brown with dark brown/coffee rays of color highlight the body whorl impact. The shell exhibits thick wings that demonstrate exceptional terminal fluting on the varix edges. The foliatum has an intact spire, anterior siphonal canal and aperture lip. Slight wear on the spire and protoconch. Collected by Scuba diver at 20-25 meters on rocks between kelps off Channel Islands, California in 2008. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
