Note | A rare and exquisite example of the Conus subfamily. As the Latin name cedo nulli translates, "I yield to none", the seashell is historically one of the most sought after and coveted of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. A shell admired by the aristocracy and noblemen of Europe. The cone displays beautiful geographic patterns and a revolving microdot pattern circumnavigating the body whorl. This specimen shows a perfect natural lip and spire. Growth disruption evident on the dorsal body whorl (arrow) and some wear on the protoconch. The shell was collected off Tobago, West Indies in sand and rubble at 30 meters by Scuba diver in the 70's. Grade: F+++. |
