Item | # 0003186765 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila marginata f. consueta - DARK , Biraghi 1993 |
Size | 59.6 mm |
Locality | Mandurah, Western Australia |
Note | Exceptionally dark consueta accentuated by intense base and marginal spotting. The marginata also displays significant marginal corrugation with pronounced tuberculation of the moderately flared margins. Dark colored version of the subspecies with a huge coffee/brown colored well-defined blotch with maculae and high notable spotting as seen in images that embrace and climb the margins. This consueta is a highly desirable example of the subspecies. NOTE: All marginatas fade dramatically after the removal of the gastropod. Specimens maintaining marked dark coloration after a decade of being removed from the marine environmrent are highly desirable. Taken by scuba diver at 10-12 meters while feeding on coral ledge sponge in 2010 off Mandurah, Western Australia. The Zoila presents with a mild growth fold on the mid-dorsum not seen in the images. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
