Name | Zoila thersites thersites - HEAVY CLASSIC , Gaskoin, 1849 |
Size | 90.2 mm |
Locality | Thorny Passage, Port Lincoln, SA |
Note | Large, well developed, glossy and exceptionally heavy specimen from southern Australian population. Perfuse display of chestnut brown maculae on the primary grey/white dorsal color with excellent lateral wall spotting on this heavily inflated Zoila classic. Superior weight/size ratio with a beautiful base pattern, the shell is an impressive heavy weight thersites in hand and a truly striking high-end seashell. These large thersites are getting more difficult to obtain and this one is tops. Diver taken using Scuba at 15-20 meters in the late 90's in the Thorny Passage, Port Lincoln, South Australia. The Zoila shows a small self-repaired and hard to see glazed mini-nick on the labral posterior siphon edge. Lifted from a limestone reef wall while feeding on sponges by Scuba diver at 8-12 meters in 2005. Grade: GEM minus. |
