| Note | MONSTER FROM THE OLD DAYS.....Giants this size, well over the magic 100mm, are no longer available (only from old advanced collections) and rarely offered. To hold one is a joy. Attractive thick dorsal maculae, very dark on upper dorsum and adorable rich-caramel to lower margins. A most attractive combination. Super-calloused with those well-defined corrugations along the margin edges, a further sign of super-maturity as well aesthetically pleasing. Heavy at 85+g. A once in a blue moon opportunity for the Zoila collector. A small repair to posterior syphon columellar side, not attracting attention (syphon profile unspoilt) and a couple of dorsal imperfections re-glazed agreeably by the animal, all not compromising beauty. Altogether a striking example and condition considering size, bulk and particularly the life span of this elderly citizen of the deep. Please feel free to ask for more photos. Grade: F+++. Provenance: from my own collection. Collected by Scuba diver; 12-15 meters; sitting between boulders and sponges; off western end of Rottnest Island, Western Australia. |
