Size | 59 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice specimen of the extremelly rare deep water buccinid Aeneator martae Araya, 2013. This species is known only by the type specimens and a few additional specimens previously identified as Aeneator castillai. This species is the most recently described Chilean Aeneator, a genus from deep waters from New Zealand and Chile, and it has not been cited since its original description. This particular specimen was collected in the 80's by prawn fisheries, no longer working in the area. The specimen is in excellent condition for the species, still retaining part of the intritacalx covering the teloconch (which can be removed if needed). Please, note that this specimen has a manmade hole in the lower part of the columellar chanel (hence the low price), as can be seen in the images, as it was kept hanging by a thread by a fisherman. This is your opportunity to obtain one of the rarest deep water large gastropods from northern Chile. |
