ALWAYS NICE TO SEE A REAL BARBATUS FROM JAPAN.
The name barbatus has been used in the literature for half a dozen or more different species of Spondylus. The true Japanese populations of the species, usually has no spines on the upper half of the shell and many spines underneath. Not just for experts in spiny oysters.
