Item | # 0003306913 | Family | Fissurellidae | Name | Fissurella cumingi , Reeve, 1849 |
Size | 71 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One selected specimen of Fissurella cumingi, in good condition for the species. Large Fissurella species are actively collected by fishermen with hooks, so they often have nicks and damage on the border of the lip, but this particular specimen is in good condition for the species with no damage in the lip, and with a natural dorsum covered with brownnish algae which can be further cleaned to reveal the very nice pattern of red-brownish rays over a greenish background. A nice natural history item for a low price. This is an uncommon species, and very rare to find in this excellent condition. Fissurella cumingi has shells with delicate margins, so finding one with almost perfect margins like this one is very rare. |
