NameCypraecassis coarctata - EXTRAORDINARY RARE PIECE , (G. B. Sowerby I, 1825)
Size48.5 mm, w/o
LocalityIsla San Austin,B.Chamela,Mexico
NoteULTRA RARE SPECIAL FORM AND COLOR!! Thick thick curved lip WOOOOW!!! Apparently this Island hides something with the Cypraecassis coarctata. 1 year ago I found in that same region of islands a specimen of Cypraecassis wilmae that is in fact endemic to Secas Island in Panama but I found a very similar one here in Mexico. Something very confusing. Now here I present to you a specimen with a very rare shape of Cypraecassis coarctata with a very wavy/ondulated dorsum, with very clear background designs colors , an extremely thick and very curved lip, the front part of the spire is a little square, something unusual in this species . Apparently this specimen has a unique shape in an isolated coastal population. For advancer collectors and scientists. So fresh colors with all kind of color combinations, White spots , grey-dark brownish. Some deep orange in the inner lip and outer lip. Seldom seen original operculum. Fascinating animals with extreme colors and visibly dangerous. But they are not! The animal is very large and can crawl very fast. They usually hunt at night and are rarely found active during the day. They live in the intertidal zone from 1m to 10m in rare cases. They usually feed on sea urchins in the intertidal zone. This very special specimen has a very fresh elegant patterns with intact and perfect apex , siphon and lip in really gem conditions. Uncommon species in Mexico!!! Hard to get in any conditions, Rarely offered with original operculum, hard to find between the animal. For Cassidae lovers. Gem. Found buried between big rocks platforms and thick sand about 2m deep. Isla San Austin, Bahia de Chamela, Mexico , Jalisco, Mexico. January 2024. Value: 120-160 euro. Good luck!! MEXICO PACIFIC
