| Note | Interesting example of this highly sought after and distinctive cowrie species. The specimen demonstrates the classic checkered pattern and a deep nacre luster, strong color, perfect extremities and aperture teeth. The base features the typical darker orange-toned banding pattern and the shell also displays moderate rostration. The "tessy" was collected by Scuba diver off Waialae Kahala, Oahu, Hawaii in 2012. The shell was found at 30 meters under a dead coral head situated on sand/rock substrate. The specimen displays many micro/small subnacre blemishes (delaminations) on the dorsum best seen under magnification. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
