| Note | Rare hybrid specimen between jeaniana and the aurata subspecies. Gorgeous and robust specimen, remarkably different from the typical deep-water Taiwanese trawled aurata specimens available. The shell displays remarkable deep nacre lustre, moderate inflation and thick margins. The soft creme/white color highlight the light brown dorsal blotching and maculae. Dark brown/black distinctive lateral wall spots are complemented by distinct flesh/honey orange painted extremities. It becomes easy to appreciate the integration of jeaniana shell morphology with typical aurata hues and pigmentation characteristics. Hence, with this particular specimen, the hybridization is very conspicuous. Collected by ROV at 95 meters while resting on sponges off Bernier Island, Carnarvon, Western Australia in 2020. The shell displays minor wobbles on the anterior ramp and a smaller nacred scar on the posterior ramp. Grade: F+++/GEM minus |
