Note | Uncommon and rarely encountered deep water specimen collected in the Gulf of Mexico. The light-weight specimen shows superb sculpturing of the body whorl with the majority of spines intact and presents with rarely seen webbed varices. The shell shows flawless aperture lips, protoconch and spire. The siphonal canal shows some minor chipping on the ventral surface of the open canal edges. The shell was dredged at 64 meters off the Dry Tortugas, Key West, Florida in the 50's. Shell acquired from ancient collection, original data slip included from Ed Hanley. Grade: F+++. |
