NoteA NEW DISCOVERY: A LONG-SPINED FORMOSA. Since the discovery of the golden Formosa in Siargao and the great variation in the coral reef forms of the very white and dark pink "Formosa", we know that we are dealing with an extremely "diverse" species. This "single" special shell came to light from a depth of 150 metres, about 40 km north of Zamboanga City, along the so-called Zamboanga Peninsula. The shell was found together with about 3 dozen Sphaerula (of which only half a dozen are saleable and the rest go in the trash) and 3 Angaria poppei of the black and crimson form with long spines. The shell looks like some forms of the long-spined poppei, but the texture of the material and many details, such as the particular colour of fleshy pink combined with patches of pure white, all point to the formosa. Formosa is usually a shallow water clam, the white and crimson coral forms are often taken between 25 and 40 metres, the golden form is occasionally even shallower. So this is definitely one of the first deepwater Formosa from the Philippines, and the site where it was caught is particularly rich in Angariidae, as three different species occur together. A treasure for the Angaria collection, an extremely rare form of a generally quite rare species. Philippines. Mindanao. Zamboanga Peninsula, about 40 km north of the city. 150 m. 2016. #961743
