THE “SPINY” MAXIMUS. Penion maximus is a typical East Australian species: it lives from southern Queensland south to Tasmania, so it is native to the cold-water part of this amazing coast full of beautiful shells.
In fact, few people outside Australia realise that the species is missing from most collections worldwide as "Penion maximus". This large buccinid, here a rare specimen measuring over 200mm, is never perfect. We are dealing with one of the best specimens ever. From an vintage Australian collection. No longer available on the market worldwide.
Australia. Queensland. South Queensland. Moreton Bay. Trawled. 150 m. Circa 1980.
Family: AUSTROSIPHONIDAE.
